The Temple x Raphael
Reimagined from "The Marriage of the Virgin", 1504. Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan.
The Temple is the perfect bridge between classical and contemporary art. Here, it provides a fresh perspective on the architecture displayed in The Marriage of the Virgin, while also removing the figures. Not only does this alleviate the painting from the religious affiliations that so heavily shaped society in the 1500s, but it also preserves the style of High Renaissance Art that is rarely being produced today. In The Temple, we are able to appreciate the elegance of sharp lines used in this infrastructure, and how they are complemented with the round shapes of the overhead dome and overall building.
