The Island x Arnold Böcklin
Reimagined from "The Isle of the Dead", 1883. Alte Nationalgalerie, Berlin.
Inspired by the allure of dreams, Isle of the Dead was created to evoke a personal stillness in its viewers. Böcklin’s vision seemingly came to fruition when the series became singlehandedly the most famous paintings of the early 1900s. It is said that every house in Berlin hung a version of the Isle of the Dead, and that they even went on to inspire books, movies, and music. Now, The Island serves as an unbranded version of the five-painting series—adding to the mystery that captivated so many before.
